The World Heritage Coast in Dorset stretches for about 95 miles, and a visit to this stunning coastline takes visitors back in time 185 million years.

They are the same thing. “The World Heritage Coast in Dorset” is a more accurate and more descriptive term.

What is the difference between the Dorset Heritage Coast and the World Heritage Coast? Not much difference from what I read————– An evaluation of the heritage coast programme in England and Wales.
The increasing use of the British coast for recreation over the last 50 years has led to degradation of many coastal areas. The Heritage Coast programme, based on voluntary cooperation between landholders, the local authorities and the Countryside Commission, was initiated to provide development control and active on-ground management. The achievements of the programme include the definition of 35 separate Heritage Coasts, and three completed planning and management projects in Glamorgan, Suffolk and Purbeck (Dorset). This report evaluates the programme, identifies problem areas as well as success stories, and contains eight recommendations.http://www.cababstractsplus.org/abstracts/Abstract.aspx?AcNo=19831802960

The Dorset and East Devon Coast World Heritage Site is England’s first natural World Heritage Site – it is known as The Jurassic Coast. It covers 95 miles of truly stunning coastline from East Devon to Dorset, with rocks recording 185 million years of the Earth’s history.

World Heritage status was achieved because of the site’s unique insight into the Earth Sciences as it clearly depicts a geological ‘walk through time’ spanning the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.
http://www.jurassiccoast.com/ The Heritage Jurassic Coast of Dorset England has won international acclaim. The Dorset coastline has been awarded World Heritage Site status.

The dorset and east devon coastline of england, where countless fossils have been found over hundreds of years, has been given world heritage site status.

This puts the coast, which includes the beautiful cliffs of golden cap in Charmouth and the resort of Lyme Regis, on a par with the taj mahal, the pyramids, the grand canyon and the great barrier reef. The coast is the first natural site to win the ultimate accolade in England.

The Dorset and East Devon coast is one of most significant earth science sites in the world and was awarded World Heritage Site Status in December 2001.

Dorset’s coast and countryside is amongst the most varied and beautiful in England and is believed by many to be the county’s most important asset. The quality of the unspoilt landscape and wildlife is recognised by the many international and national designations the county has received. Residents and visitors alike value the unspoilt beaches and cliffs and the wonderfully varied landscapes which range from rolling downland to the increasingly rare lowland heaths.
